India imports non-GM corn from Ukraine

India has imported 27,000 tons of non- GMO corn from Ukraine. It has been delivered to the country at a cost of $ 205 per ton.

This procurement became necessary as India faced a shortage due to pests and dry weather. Earlier this year, India had procured 57,000 tonnes of the product from Ukraine.

India was the largest exporter of non- GMO corn to Southeast Asia. But declining production and rising demand in sectors such as poultry industry and corn starch production have made the country the main importer of this product in 2019.

It should be noted that the country's lost opportunity for corn exports to world markets is filled by the United States, Brazil, and Argentina.
