researchers at US Department of Agriculture (USDA) believe that the public health implications of this issue can be worrying. The results of recently published studies have shown that bacteria present in poultry meat can be spread to other surfaces and foods by washing this product.
Estimates show that in more than 60% of cases when poultry consumers wash this product before consumption, it results in distribution in the sink and kitchen environment.
However, in 14% of cases, even the cleaning and disinfection of the sink has not been able to eliminate the effects of this operation.
Finally, the researchers believe that baking chicken at a temperature of at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit can eliminate all the pathogens in it without having to wash the product.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, thousands of citizens are infected with foodborne illness each year.
