The poultry industry is the largest agricultural sub-sector in South Africa.

Statistical analysis indicates that this industry occupies a special place with 16.6% of the total value of its agricultural GDP.
Commentators believe that the outbreak of bird flu in the country has opened the door for imports of poultry products into South Africa. This is still a matter of sharp disagreement between the country's producers and importers.
On the other hand, the country's producers face numerous problems such as rising production costs, transportation, feed, labor and energy.
Reducing consumer income is another issue to consider.
However, estimates suggest that the country's poultry industry had a good growth in 2019.
According to the commentators' calculations, the import of poultry products to the country during 2018 was five times more than the period of 2013 to 2017.
Currently, Brazil and the US are the largest exporters of poultry meat and poultry products to South Africa.
